The way our Board operates though, it has felt like a group effort. Keith’s (immediate past president) good work set the stage for me. Keith and Vicki (incoming president January 2018) are always on deck, so the handoff to Vicki should be smooth. I fully intend to remain involved and supportive as a Board member.
The building has been a dream for so long. It was almost shocking to see the footings go in this spring. I took a hardhat tour in August after I’d been away, and was thrilled to find it under roof and looking HUGE. Ryan (Hourigan Construction Superintendent) seemed as excited as the staff. It will be a life-changer for many of our Goochland neighbors, to find all of their programs under one roof.
The success of our Capital Campaign is also the success of a generous county. I have the sense that Goochlanders have long observed how helpful GFCFS has been to neighbors in need, and they stretched to help us fund the building. My hope is that our new building will allow us to serve even more of the people who need us.
