Goochland County is preparing to bid farewell to a long-time community leader. Sally Graham, the Executive Director of GoochlandCares for over 25 years, has announced that she plans to retire in December 2024. Her leadership, dedication, and vision have left an indelible mark on the local nonprofit and the greater community.
In her retirement announcement, Graham reflected on the organization’s role as an essential safety net for those in need, “This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful for the unwavering support that has made our growth and impact possible.”
Under Graham’s direction, GoochlandCares has evolved to meet the demands of Goochland County residents. In 2008, Goochland Fellowship & Family Services and the then-named Free Clinic of Goochland merged to become one comprehensive organization. Today, GoochlandCares provides 12 programs, all under one roof, to address the immediate needs of food, housing, health care, and other necessities. “Throughout my tenure, I have had the privilege of witnessing the transformation and expansion of GoochlandCares from a very part-time clinic to the thriving community resource it has become. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, hard work, and generosity of our community,” says Sally.
The search for a new CEO is well underway. GoochlandCares’ Board of Directors has convened a search committee to select a successor who will uphold the same commitment to mission-focused, client-centered care that Sally championed. “While leaving is somewhat bittersweet, I am genuinely excited about the future of GoochlandCares under new leadership. The organization will benefit from fresh perspectives, new ideas, and renewed energy and will continue to thrive in its mission,” Sally stated.
Throughout this transition, GoochlandCares remains steadfast in its mission of providing basic human services and health care to their neighbors in need.
Graham concluded her announcement with heartfelt thanks to the community. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the whole community for being an integral part of my experience,” Graham said. “Your support has been invaluable. Thank you for the partnerships, collaborations, hard work, and the many happy memories I will carry with me.”
