GoochlandCares has been a safety net for the community since 1952. Our mission is to provide basic human services and health care to our Goochland neighbors in need. GoochlandCares envisions an equitable community in which all persons have their basic needs met, empowering them to lead lives of self-dignity and well-being.
Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition
In July 2015, Goochland Free Clinic received Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition from The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long‐term, participative relationships between the patient and healthcare providers. GFCFS is one of only two free clinics in Virginia to achieve this prominent recognition, which is awarded nationally to medical practices meeting the highest of standards for patient care. NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.
SEI designation
In August 2016, again in December 2019, and most recently in May 2023, GoochlandCares achieved the Service Enterprise designation awarded by the Points of Light Foundation. A Service Enterprise is “an organization that fundamentally leverages volunteers and their skills across all levels of the organization to successfully deliver on its social mission.” Approval requires an application, diagnostic survey, training, action plan and site visit. Only 11% of non-profits nationwide achieve the Service Enterprise designation. Points of Light is the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service.
