Goochland Free Clinic & Family Services Breaks Ground for New Building on March 21, 2017
Goochland Free Clinic & Family Services (GFCFS) is excited to announce that construction for its new 20,000 square foot building will begin on March 21, 2017 at 3001 River Road West in the Goochland Courthouse area. GFCFS and its Board of Directors have been pursuing the vision to build a facility that will house eleven critical assistance programs including the medical clinic, dental clinic, Food Pantry, and Clothes Closet in one location. GFCFS’s current facilities at three separate locations are no longer adequate to provide the high level of care for Goochland individuals and families in need. In 2016, GFCFS provided services for over 1,700 Goochland residents.
“Housing all of our programs under one roof will ensure our capacity to respond to the needs of our clients , increase access and deliver quality services safely, efficiently, privately, and with dignity,” said Sally Graham, Executive Director of GFCFS.
Last April, the board announced plans for its
ALL.HERE.NOW. Capital Campaign to raise $7.1 million dollars through donations and grants. The project includes the new building, a $1.5 million endowment and conversion of the current Family Services building into emergency housing. The current emergency housing and registration buildings will be demolished. Administration staff has temporarily relocated to 2913 River Road West, Suite G. Family Services staff and programs have temporarily relocated to 2931 River Road West.
“Thanks to impressive and continuing community support including grants and matching grants from locally-based organizations as well as grassroots fundraising, we are ready to make GFCFS’ vision happen by breaking ground today for the “one stop shop” to continue to provide our neighbors in need with the highest level of services,” added Lisa Luck, Chair for the
ALL.HERE.NOW. Capital Campaign for the new building.
GFCFS is partnering with Hourigan Construction to build the 20,000 square foot building at 3001 River Road West as well as converting the existing main building into emergency housing. This centrally located site was chosen to make it easier for clients to access all services.
